AFT REAFFIRMATION OF SUPPORT TO SMALL LOCALS
WHEREAS, one of the objectives of the AFT is to bring local and state federations of teachers and other workers into relations of mutual assistance and cooperation; and
WHEREAS, many AFT locals do not enjoy bargaining agent status and/or do not represent a large membership; and
WHEREAS, these locals nonetheless have affiliated with AFT and demonstrated their commitment to the principles of the AFT; and
WHEREAS, these locals contribute to the growth of AFT and, hence, the American labor movement; and
WHEREAS, the initial impetus for such growth must necessarily come from small beginnings and the "dedicated few":
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers and its state federations reaffirm its tradition of mutual assistance, cooperation and financial support to all locals regardless of size or bargaining status. (Executive Council)
