AFT Resolution

AFT ORGANIZING ACTIVITIES

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers has established its greatest strength in the large cities of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the greatest increase in population in the past ten years has been in the suburban areas adjacent to these centers of AFT strength; and

WHEREAS, an increase in AFT locals and membership in the suburban areas is both desirable and necessary:

RESOLVED, this convention recommends that the American Federation of Teachers increase its financial support of organizing activities in metropolitan suburban areas through the state federations; and

RESOLVED, this convention recommends that the state federations, the large city locals, and the existing suburban locals plan and implement a joint organizing program in the metropolitan suburban areas.
