AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CLAUSES IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTS

WHEREAS, all school districts and other agencies receiving federal funds are required to have affirmative action and equal opportunity plans; and

WHEREAS, all AFT locals that are collective bargaining agencies, where such plans are required should be involved to the maximum extent in all aspects of such plans:

RESOLVED, that the 1980 convention of the American Federation of Teachers urge all locals to strive for the inclusion in their collective bargaining agreements of a clause worded along the following lines:

The AFT local is to be involved in the affirmative action and equal opportunity plan of the school district, immediately and constantly, in every aspect and facet, at every level, and in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of every program in that plan.
