AFT Resolution

ABUSED CHILDREN SERVICES

WHEREAS, socio-economic conditions in the United States are worsening; and

WHEREAS, pressures are increasing in the family unit which can be directly attributable to unfavorable changes in family economic resources; and

WHEREAS, children often bear the brunt of the frustrations felt by their parents or guardians:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers opposes reductions in resources and services directly available to those children identified as "abused;" and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers supports legislation designed to benefit abused children and provide facilities to protect them, while enabling their parents and/or guardians to develop skills and attitudes that enable them to cope without resorting to abusing those children in their care.
