WASHINGTON—American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement in response to the release of a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report:
“The way in which President Trump’s attorney general handled the Mueller report doesn’t inspire confidence. Both Congress and the American public have a right to know the results of this investigation, not just Attorney General William Barr’s interpretation of the results. Congress should do everything in its power to accomplish that, including subpoenaing Robert Mueller.
“Our democracy is founded on trust and transparency, yet President Trump has staked his entire presidency on secrecy and hiding. Whether you believe the president or not, the person holding that office owes it to the American people to be truthful: about his taxes, and about issues of national security, including dealings with a foreign adversary. He’s president of all Americans, not just his base.”
