WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten on the election of Mikie Sherrill to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District in Congress:

“The people of New Jersey made the right choice in electing a strong, sensible leader like Mikie Sherrill to Congress. A few weeks ago, I spent a very rainy Saturday in New Jersey campaigning with educators, public employees and healthcare workers for Mikie, and I was struck by what a breath of fresh air she’d be in Washington. Her straight talk on healthcare, commonsense gun safety, and the need to reject the GOP agenda of cruelty and divisiveness rang true with the people of the 11th District.”

AFT New Jersey President Donna Chiera on Sherrill’s win:

“I am proud of our members’ participation, and of all New Jerseyans, for seeking balance in national governance by electing new congressional representatives, including Mikie Sherrill. Our members approached this election as an opportunity to cast affirmative votes for community values and respect for humanity, which we believe are sentiments shared by the majority of Americans.”
