AFT Resolution

STRENGTHENING THE COALITION FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, unparalleled state and federal deficits threaten the viability of public education; and

WHEREAS, drastic cuts in educational funding will lead to the destruction of educational programs, the flight from public schools, the establishment of private and parochial schools and the layoff of teachers; and

WHEREAS, tuition tax credits and vouchers continue to threaten public education; and

WHEREAS, the survival of the public schools is the concern of parents and teachers:

RESOLVED, that the AFT shall continue to:

  • build coalitions between parents and teachers at the state, local, and national level;
  • develop relationships between locals and the business community to establish joint ventures in support of public schools;
  • develop public relations programs which will point out the strengths of our public education system. (Executive Council)
