STRENGTHENING PUBLIC EDUCATION
WHEREAS, several recent national reports have recognized the need to improve education in the United States at all levels, from the elementary schools through the colleges and universities, and recommended substantially increased funding of education as an investment necessary to promote economic growth, good citizenship and the enjoyment of life:
RESOLVED, that the AFT continue its efforts to accomplish these goals by securing higher salaries for educators, reducing the size of overcrowded classes and providing for necessary compensatory education and guidance; and
RESOLVED, that the AFT continue its efforts to secure adequate funding of education through progressive taxation of the wealthy and of big corporations; and
RESOLVED, that the AFT continue to seek the cooperation of the AFL-CIO and its state and local bodies in campaigns to attain these objectives, and that the AFT encourage its affiliated locals to do the same.
