AFT Resolution

RUNAWAY SHOPS

WHEREAS, the runaway shop trend, closing factories in order to transfer operations to open shop states and foreign lands where labor is unorganized, continues to cause serious damage to public education by eroding its tax bases, as well as demoralizing communities thus bereft of major sources of employment and income:

RESOLVED, that the 1980 AFT convention endorse H.R. 5040, a National Employment Priorities Act and call upon all its affiliates to press for its adoption by communication with their respective members of congress and to help rally their respective local and state central labor bodies to this vital cause.
