AFT Resolution

PRE-KINDERGARTEN AND KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS

WHEREAS, there has been a steady increase of preschool children with working parents or single parents; and

WHEREAS, there is substantial research that participation in pre-school programs results in greater employment, reduced drop-out rate, high motivation and higher achievement; and

WHEREAS, federal, state and local governments are seeking to cut budgets:

RESOLVED, that AFT reaffirm its support of pre-school programs in the public schools; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT lobby for increased funding in this vital area.
