SEXUAL HARASSMENT
WHEREAS, sexual harassment has been a hidden but serious problem in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, sexual harassment and its consequences for employees have been recognized; and
WHEREAS, the EEOC has declared sexual harassment illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Education's office of civil rights has not declared sexual harassment a form of discrimination under Title IX:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers urge its locals to pursue contract language which protects members of its bargaining units from sexual harassment citing it as a form of discrimination; and
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers encourage and support programs to further understand and combat sexual harassment. (Executive Council)
