E-RECORDS (ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY) EFFECT ON PATIENT CARE
WHEREAS, electronic records are being implemented into our healthcare system at a very rapid rate; and
WHEREAS, there are many potential benefits to the appropriate utilization and implementation of electronic records into our healthcare system; and
WHEREAS, the potential benefits of such records may reduce medical errors, provide a more accurate patient record, provide a basis for better coordination of care, assist in data collection for treatments and assist with more accurate diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, the potential benefits of this technology can be achieved only by the appropriate training, implementation and ongoing technical support necessary for the staff:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers will assist locals with contract language that can enable them to get the appropriate training and technical support necessary to correctly implement electronic records into their facilities; and
RESOLVED, that the AFT will review the best practices for electronic record utilization and have them available as a resource for locals.
