AFT Resolution

NEW TECHNOLOGY

WHEREAS, increasingly computers are used in clinical areas to increase efficiency and improve accuracy; and

WHEREAS, the ability to reduce employees through use of computers and robots affects all clinical areas either directly or indirectly; and

WHEREAS, research suggests that general staff nurses and technologists will require retraining of face dis­placements; and

WHEREAS, this new technology could be used to evaluate the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers sends out model contract language on new technology and urges all its locals to include such language in their contracts; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers goes on record as supporting job retraining for those employees, who might be displaced, and further urges locals to get contract language to this end. (Executive Council)
