FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

WHEREAS, the Young Adult Services Division of the American Library Association has established that three school book clubs have been expurgating both young adult and children's books without permission of the author and without a notice on the book, by removing words, phrases and/or sections:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers goes on record as opposing the practice of expurgation without permission or notice; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT members who use the book clubs be urged to write letters stating their objection to the practice of expurgation of young adult and children's books.
