AFT Resolution

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

WHEREAS, the annual celebrations of International Women's Day on March 8 and Women's History Week during the second week in March have proven successful and worthwhile for several years; and

WHEREAS, the 1982, 1983, and 1984 celebrations were supported by a resolution passed by Congress and signed by the President of the United States; and

WHEREAS, these celebrations recognize the economic, cultural, social, and political contributions made by American women to our American heritage; and

WHEREAS, these celebrations should be expanded as a means of focusing even greater attention on the con­tributions of the female labor force, working both in and out of the home:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, continues to support efforts to establish an annual celebration of Women's History Month during March; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers supports permanent legislation making Women's History Month an annual event.
