AFT Resolution

FAIR DISTRIBUTION OF FEDERAL BLOCK GRANTS

WHEREAS, Education Consolidation and Improvement Act Chapter 2 educational funding goes to school districts under a formula based in part on student need; and

WHEREAS, current federal rules mandate what private schools within the boundaries of public school districts unjustly benefit because they receive the same per pupil dollars as do the public school districts in which they are located-even if the pupils attending these private schools would not otherwise qualify as being in need:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers supports a change in the rules for ECIA Chapter 2 funding in order to ensure that the money follows the public school pupils identified as being in need.
