AFT Resolution

BOYCOTT CONTINENTAL AIRLINES AND NEW YORK AIR

Texas Air Corporation knows how to bust unions. Despite contract provisions protecting union jobs, Texas Air moved a fleet of airplanes without the crews assigned to them, from Texas to New York and started the non-union New York Air. Their next step was to declare bankruptcy of Continental Airlines and reopen two days later as a "new" non-union firm.

Continental Airlines was declared bankrupt despite the fact that it had $288 million in the bank. When the "new" airline opened, workers were offered a 50 to 60 percent pay cut across the board, elimination of all fringe benefits, no retirement, no vacation, and no sick leave. Many workers with serious medical problems were left with no health insurance.

The AFT deplores the actions of this corporation and asks its members to boycott both Continental Airlines and New York Air during this labor dispute.
