AFT Resolution

PENSION PORTABILITY

WHEREAS, in our mobile society it is frequently necessary for school and other public employees and health care workers to change their state of residence; and

WHEREAS, many states already permit purchase of credit of service in other states; and

WHEREAS, the ability to withdraw one's entire pension money package for the express purpose of reinvesting in one's new pension system would make the move from one educational institution to another economically more feasible:

RESOLVED, that the AFT reaffirm its commitment to lobby actively in the Congress and in the state legislatures for pension portability; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT continue to lobby in Congress for federal support that would assist states in creating portable pension plans.
