SUPPORT CHILDCARE IN TITLE III OF THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE HIGHER ED ACT (2003-2004)

WHEREAS, many states have significantly reduced funding for higher education over the past 20 years; and

WHEREAS, these budget cuts have made the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty and staff far more difficult; and

WHEREAS, on-site child care improves employee recruitment, retention, satisfaction and performance; and

WHEREAS, on-site campus child care can be designed to serve students, faculty, staff and teacher training:

RESOLVED, that the AFT support and promote funding to subsidize campus-based child care for faculty, staff and students on a sliding scale in the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act under Title III.
