AFT Resolution
PROTECTING PENSION RIGHTS
WHEREAS, many companies have fallen victim to merger mania; and
WHEREAS, the economic practices of the '80s and '90s have accelerated bankruptcies and hostile takeovers; and
WHEREAS, pension rights are not fully and adequately protected by current federal and state legislation; and
WHEREAS, many workers, after long years of dedicated service, have lost all or major portions of their pensions due to company bankruptcies and company mergers:
RESOLVED, that AFT seek legislation to strengthen the Javits Act so that the hard-won pension rights of all employees in the private sector are not jeopardized by shortsighted economic policies.
