HEALTH CARE CRISIS
WHEREAS, the administration and the Congress of the United States of America are currently studying and discussing solutions to the health care crisis in this country; and
WHEREAS, one of the great problems facing legislators is determining how to pay for a program to provide health care to the uninsured and the underinsured; and
WHEREAS, one of the topics included in these discussions is the possibility of taxing employees for the value of their health benefits; and
WHEREAS, such a tax would be unfair, inequitable and contrary to the interests of working men and women:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers oppose any plan that would make taxable any benefits currently received by employees on a tax-exempt basis; and
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers urge the AFL-CIO to support this resolution
