AFT Resolution

STUDENT/STUDENT SEXUAL HARASSMENT

 WHEREAS, sexual harassment of students by their peers is increasing in frequency and degree and has a detrimental, often devastating, effect on its victims; and

WHEREAS, sexual harassment at all levels of education has been either ignored or not taken seriously by school teachers, administrators and other personnel:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers reaffirm its opposition to sexual harassment in all forms; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT call upon all educational institutions to issue and enforce policies and procedures to prevent student-to-student sexual harassment; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT urge required training programs in preventing student/student sexual harassment be part of inservice for all personnel or anyone having contact with students; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT support education of all students as a required inclusion of the curriculum and instruction on sexual harassment.
