RENEW SUPPORT FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTERS
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Unified School District is threatening to consolidate (or close) several early childhood centers (Children's Centers) in a cost-cutting move; and
WHEREAS, other school districts around the state and nation often emulate the actions of the LAUSD; and
WHEREAS, the states usually reimburse school districts for most of any budget shortfalls created by the operation of early childhood education centers; and
WHEREAS, the savings from the potential LAUSD consolidations are estimated to be only $1.5 million or less:
RESOLVED, that the AFT take the necessary measures to prevent these closures both in LAUSD and any other school district in the nation that seeks to close an early childhood education center as a way to save money.
