American Federation of Teachers Committee on Political Education Launches Six-Figure Ad Buy Supporting Terry McAuliffe for Virginia Governor

WASHINGTON—The American Federation of Teachers Committee on Political Education fund will begin airing an ad supporting Terry McAuliffe’s campaign for Virginia governor; it will air on cable and broadcast stations in the Washington, D.C., market. The ad makes clear the overwhelming support for McAuliffe among educators and parents across Virginia. Along with the ad, AFT President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement:

“There’s one candidate in this race who has walked the walk when it comes to our kids, our parents, our educators, our public schools and so much more. Terry McAuliffe is that candidate. As governor, he had a demonstrated track record of listening to the people he represents, engaging directly with parents and teachers. He made sure parents and teachers were heard, and he worked with them to curb high-stakes standardized testing. I know he’ll do the same when elected again.

“While McAuliffe runs a campaign that engages the community on issues like keeping schools safe during the pandemic, making college affordable for all Virginians, and investing in STEM education, his opponent is trying to pit the people closest to our kids against each other, using divisive, destabilizing tactics to advance a plan that diverts money out of neighborhood public schools.

“With partisan vitriol, misinformation and attacks at an all-time high, it’s important that all Virginians understand that Terry McAuliffe is the best candidate to lead the state forward.”
