NEW YORK—AFT President Randi Weingarten on the election of Antonio Delgado to represent New York’s 19th Congressional District in Congress:

“Today, the people of the 19th Congressional District of New York voted for fairness, and to restore checks and balances, by sending Antonio Delgado to the U.S. House of Representatives. We supported Delgado because he has demonstrated a willingness to fight for things that make a difference in the day-to-day lives of our families: economic opportunity, gender equity and the protection of service jobs. He stands up for teachers, factory workers and the rights of veterans, and he understands that a high-quality public education is the key to creating opportunities that will allow our children to realize the American dream.

“Voters across New York state are fed up with President Trump’s divisiveness, hatred and bigotry. When the stakes were at their highest, New Yorkers showed up to provide a check on that hate and set a new direction for the 19th District.”

New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta and New York State Public Employees Federation President Wayne Spence on Antonio Delgado’s election:

“Congratulations to Antonio Delgado and to voters across the 19th Congressional District of New York, who rejected the politics of division and realized the strength of their united voice. For months, our members have been knocking on doors, making calls and mobilizing to put Delgado in office. Now, we look forward to working alongside him to build a state where public schools, healthcare and working-family values are the top priorities.”
