AFT President Randi Weingarten, OSEA President Tim Stoelb and OFNHP President Adrienne Enghouse on Oregon’s Election of Kate Brown for Governor

WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten on the election of Kate Brown for governor of Oregon:

“The people of Oregon have spoken, and their message is clear: They chose decency over cruelty and hope over fear. They chose to keep Kate Brown in office because she stood up for the working people across the state who want to build a better life for their families. I spent a day campaigning across the state with Gov. Brown and I saw firsthand how she walks the walk with teachers, nurses and public employees—she’s one of us. 

“Since Kate took office, 100 percent of kids and 94 percent of adults now have access to healthcare coverage, so nobody is one illness away from bankruptcy. That’s why educators and healthcare professionals support her, and why we worked so hard to get her re-elected.”

Oregon School Employees Association President Tim Stoelb said:

"The Oregon School Employees Association is proud to have endorsed Kate Brown's successful re-election bid to be Oregon's governor. Oregon has seen results from Kate's commitment to students. During her time as governor, four-year high school graduation rates have increased by 4.7 percent overall. For students of color, special education and migrant students, the rate has increased by more than 7 percent. We know she is only getting started and look forward to continued collaboration with her office for the next four years."
