WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten on the election of Laura Kelly for governor of Kansas:
“The people of Kansas have spoken, and their message is clear: This election, they chose decency over cruelty and hope over fear. They elected Laura Kelly because she has vowed to make investments in early childhood education and would prioritize the needs of working people who have felt ignored by the GOP’s policies in Kansas. Kelly has a plan to make college an affordable reality for every Kansan, and to expand Medicaid so people are never one health emergency away from bankruptcy.”
AFT Kansas President Lisa Ochs on Laura Kelly’s election:
“Congratulations to Gov.-elect Laura Kelly and to the voters of Kansas, who realized the strength of our united voice tonight. Kansans and AFT Kansas members have been phone banking, door knocking and getting out the vote for months because we were determined to take our state back. Kelly has made it her life’s mission to fight for children and for working families across this state. We look forward to a new Kansas with fair wages, fully funded schools and public services, due process for workers, and affordable, quality healthcare.”
