AFT Resolution

FISCAL INDEPENDENCE FOR SCHOOL BOARDS

WHEREAS, properly educating the youth of the Nation is of paramount importance to local communities as well as the National Welfare; and

WHEREAS, automation and new job requirements demand better and more intensive educational programs than ever before offered; and

WHEREAS, financial needs for such programs must be provided at the local, state and federal levels without political involvements:

RESOLVED, that the AFT reaffirm its position for fiscally independent school boards; and

RESOLVED, that the AFL-CIO be requested to take a similar position so that human dignity and the national welfare can best be served by school boards that are fiscally independent and responsible.
