FORMATION OF COUNCILS OF THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS

WHEREAS, the member locals on Long Island have found participation in the Long Island American Federation of Teachers Council beneficial in establishing organizational unity; and

WHEREAS, these member locals have found the educational, professional, and political group action of the council effective in strengthening organizational potential and in gaining favorable recognition from the press, the public, and the profession of education; and

WHEREAS, the existence of the council has facilitated communications between member locals:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers encourage the formation of regional American Federation of Teachers councils where appropriate.
