AFT Resolution
SOCIAL SECURITY
WHEREAS, most employees in private industry in the United States are covered by Social Security; and
WHEREAS, after 1968, employees not on Social Security will not receive Medicare benefits:
RESOLVED, that all AFT locals and State Federations urge their governmental bodies to take the necessary steps under Federal law to provide public employees with an opportunity (or an additional opportunity) to elect to be covered by Social Security with benefits to be supplemental to any current benefits provided by local retirement systems.
