AFT Resolution

CREDENTIAL REFORM

WHEREAS, schools are introducing programs of a more specialized nature; and

WHEREAS, these special programs are requiring skilled professional people who are not technically teachers, such as psychologists, language pathologists, etc.; and

WHEREAS, there are many other professions recognized for their competence and skill who are also not teachers, such as artists, musicians, actors, scientists, conservationists, programmers, presently not qualified to teach or otherwise serve in the public schools due to present credentialing procedures:

RESOLVED, that the AFT call all state federations support and initiate legislation providing for a category of certification.
