AFT Resolution

OPPOSITION TO PRIVATIZATION OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES

WHEREAS, the AFT believes that state government provides important services; and

WHEREAS, AFT believes that some services should be provided exclusively by government agencies; and

WHEREAS, AFT believes that privatization is a system of using government contracts for political reward; and

WHEREAS, the privatization or contracting out of government services will cost thousands of dues-paying government-employed union members their jobs and thus increase the overall state unemployment rate:

RESOLVED, that the AFT oppose any legislation that promotes the privatization or contracting out of government services; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT support any legislation that may be introduced to limit privatization of government services.
