CONTRACEPTIVE COVERAGE
WHEREAS, preventive reproductive health services are frequently not covered expenses under health plans, and union-negotiated contracts are often silent on the subject; and
WHEREAS, according to the Coalition of Labor Union Women's Reproductive Health Project and Planned Parenthood, two-thirds of plans covering prescription drugs fail to cover oral contraceptives and 85 percent do not cover diaphragms; and
WHEREAS, legislation requiring such insurance coverage would reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and promote the health and well-being of women:
RESOLVED, that the AFT, the AFL-CIO and all affiliate organizations support efforts to secure legislation mandating that reproductive/contraceptive services be covered in all insurance plans.
