AFT Resolution

ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL

WHEREAS, in addition to teachers, large numbers of other personnel, such as guidance counselors, secretaries, paraprofessionals, aides, attendance teachers, laboratory specialists, et al. are presently employed in our schools; and

WHEREAS, each of these employees contributes to enhancing the educational process and all are essential to a good educational system; and

WHEREAS, all such personnel have a common interest in fighting for improvements in the schools; and

WHEREAS, the unity of the entire educational staff strengthens our ability to win greater benefits for education and for those whom we represent in bargaining; whereas disunity opens the way to jurisdictional conflict, rival unionism, division and weakness; and

WHEREAS, in these times when education is under severe attack from many quarters, we cannot afford the luxury of dividing those whose interests lie in enhancing education:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers locals seek the membership of all unorganized non-administrative employees of their educational systems; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers locals seek to become the bargaining agent for all unorganized non-administrative employees in their schools.
