AFT Resolution
COUNSELING OF WOMEN
WHEREAS, many women in school face special problems because of the lack of a positive self-image as a result of the role ascribed to them by society; and
WHEREAS, women in school have particular problems as to preparation for future employment due to sexist discrimination; and
WHEREAS, mothers attending school have unique concerns:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers support counseling programs that meet the specific needs of women. These programs must include the following:
- The promotion of positive attitudes and motivational changes in women through the sponsorship of training programs for counseling personnel; and
- Expanded career and vocational counseling on all education levels to encourage women to make the most of their potential.
