SUPPORT FOR TITLE IX

WHEREAS, the AFT has been historically committed to remedying inequities based upon sex, such as winning a single salary schedule for all teachers regardless of sex, marital status or grade level taught; and

WHEREAS, the regulations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 state: "No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

RESOLVED, that AFT locals throughout the country actively work toward the elimination of discriminatory employment policies and practices through collective bargaining; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT urge all locals to process Title IX grievances through their local's established grievance procedure; and

RESOLVED, that AFT locals support, implement and educate its membership regarding regulations of Title IX.
