OVERCOMING DISCRIMINATION IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

WHEREAS, newly-enacted amendments to the Federal Vocational Education Program require that federal, state and local programs be designed to eliminate sexism in vocational education:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers encourage the state vocational education advisory committees, state departments of education and local school districts to:

  • Provide career and vocational counseling that does not limit career choices for girls and boys.
  • Provide programs for boys and girls which insure adequate exposure to all areas of vocational education; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers supports legislative and/or executive action that addresses the special needs and problems of women students in vocational and career education programs in overcoming sex discrimination and sex stereotyping in all occupations. (Executive Council)
