AFT Resolution

EXPANDING REPRESENTATIONAL SCOPE

WHEREAS, numerous categories of professional and educational employees are presently represented by administrator-dominated or independent organizations; and

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers has much experience in organizing and representing educational and professional workers in collective bargaining; and

WHEREAS, AFSCME and NEA and other groups have attempted to initiate competing organizational drives among public employees and have thwarted the AFT's efforts to organize educational employees by giving implied AFL-CIO status through CAPE; and

WHEREAS, the AFL-CIO has established its own public employees department:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers seeks to broaden its representational scope and explores the possibilities of widening the categories open to it for organization. (Executive Council)
