AFT Resolution
SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, most school lunch programs depend upon donated United States surplus commodities for their financial success; and
WHEREAS, the school lunch program is a part of the diet of many school-aged children; and
WHEREAS, diet has been proven to have direct effect upon children's intellectual capacities:
RESOLVED, that AFT actively work towards the acceptance of the following guidelines by the federal government in its school lunch programs:
- No additives should be included in a federal commodity unless it has been proven both safe and necessary.
- No processed foods should be used in place of a natural food product.
- No salt or sugar should be added to canned or frozen vegetables or fruits.
- Unprocessed whole grain products should be utilized.
