TRANSPORTATION

WHEREAS, transportation of handicapped students is a necessary and vital part of any special education program, and because transportation has two distinct categories: private (home or special site "pick up") and public (use of public carrier):

RESOLVED, that AFT urge its member locals to seek provisions from their boards of education that will require all bus aides to have courses in first aid, crowd control, emergency techniques, communication and teacher awareness as prerequisites to objective job selection, and that all transportation franchises be yearly franchised with special hourly considerations for evening and summer activities.
