AFT Resolution

ENFORCING SEX DISCRIMINATION LAWS THROUGH THE UNION CONTRACT AND UNION PRACTICES

WHEREAS, AFT locals have negotiated the improvement of working conditions and the elimination of discriminatory practices; and

WHEREAS, despite these efforts discrimination practices still exist in many school systems; and

WHEREAS, the AFT is committed to the enforcement of statutes, rules and regulations which equalize employment opportunities and conditions:

RESOLVED, that the AFT encourages its locals to intensify their efforts to negotiate contract provisions which equalize employment policies and practices; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT seeks funding for regional training program for officers, staff and members including instruction on state and federal laws on sex discrimination in education and employment; and

RESOLVED, that AFT-sponsored training programs for officers, members, and staff including instruction on the state and national laws and regulations which impinge upon sex discrimination in employment and education; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT continue to provide leadership, resources, staff, and guidance to help implement this resolution to ensure fair practices.
