COMPULSORY RETIREMENT AGE

WHEREAS, compulsory retirement is a form of discrimination based on the arbitrary concept of age; and

WHEREAS, there is almost no limit to the productive and intellectual powers of older persons; and

WHEREAS, each person should be judged individually on the basis of his or her competency regardless of age:

RESOLVED, that the AFT work for the abandonment of compulsory retirement and support necessary changes in national and state laws which will make it possible for a person to have the options of working so long as he or she is desirous and capable of working. (Executive Council)
