AGE DISCRIMINATION AGAINST COLLEGE TEACHERS

WHEREAS, the Age Discrimination Act now prohibits the establishment of a mandatory retirement age below 70; and

WHEREAS, the Act now excludes college teachers until 1982; and

WHEREAS, this represents a discriminatory act against a single profession for which there is no justification:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers opposes the exclusion of college teachers from the provisions of the 1978 amendments to the Act, and that it make every effort to eliminate this discrimination so that college teachers may benefit equally from this change.
