AFT Resolution

BARGAINING UNIT MEMBERS DEVELOPMENT

WHEREAS, genuine, substantially funded programs for bargaining unit members development and retraining are more appropriate and effective means than eliminating tenure for dealing with the needs for "institutional flexibility" and the assurance of continued high levels of bargaining unit members performance:

RESOLVED, that AFT seek funding to institute pilot bargaining unit members development programs and to provide graduate fellowships for the retraining of laid-off bargaining unit members; and

RESOLVED, that locals bargain to institute serious programs for the bargaining unit members growth and development prior to any actions to retrench programs or lay off bargaining unit members.
