DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FULL VOTING RIGHTS AMENDMENT

WHEREAS, the citizens of the District of Columbia have been denied voting representation in Congress since 1801; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Congress, in August, 1978, sent to the state legislatures an amendment giving the District of Columbia full voting representation in Congress; and

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers supported and lobbied for this amendment; and

WHEREAS, this amendment must be ratified within seven (7) years from date of its submission to the states:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers, and all its affiliates work for ratification of the D.C. Full Voting Rights Amendment in every state.
