AFT Resolution

CLASS SIZE II

WHEREAS, spiraling inflation and shrinking school populations have placed serious fiscal burdens on local school districts; and

WHEREAS, "Proposition 13 fever" has resulted in attempts to slash school budgets; and

WHEREAS, in their attempts to respond to slashed school budgets school districts are trying to increase class size and erode other negotiated benefits:

RESOLVED, that smaller classes are absolutely essential for meeting the needs of improved, rigorous standards of achievement and requirements for graduation, such as the basic competency examinations; and

RESOLVED, that we urge the reduction of class size.
