AFT Resolution

HARLEM VALLEY PSYCHIATRIC CENTER

WHEREAS, the greater Dutchess County (New York) Chapter of the Retired Offices Association has requested the Legislature of the State of New York to oppose any legislation to close the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, New York and requested further supplementation of the facility with a federally funded nursing home for veterans; and

WHEREAS, the Public Employees Federations, AFL-CIO, through its Mental Hygiene Task Force, concurs with the demonstrated need for such proposals:

RESOLVED, the AFT will direct its political action forces to oppose the closing of Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center; and

RESOLVED, that AFT urges the U.S. Veterans' Administration to develop a plan to utilize Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in part as a nursing home for those who have served our nation in the armed forces. (Executive Council)
