AFT Resolution

AFT RETIRED MEMBERS

WHEREAS, retired members made up the active core of dreamers and doers that founded the American Federation of Teachers; and

WHEREAS, there is a strong upsurge of interest throughout all union ranks in keeping their retirees within the union fold because of the mutual benefits such an arrangement generates; and

WHEREAS, the leadership of the AFT has recognized and responded to this concept of the continuing role of the retiree within the union and the community by creating a National Standing Committee on Retirees:

RESOLVED, that each local and/or state federation of the American Federation of Teachers be urged to form a Retired Members' Chapter in which each member retains AFT affiliation so that both the retiree and the union may continue their mutually beneficial relationship. (Executive Council)
