WASHINGTON—American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement after President Joe Biden released a video indicating that he and Vice President Kamala Harris plan to run for re-election in 2024:
“Since elected, President Biden and Vice President Harris have made life better for millions of people across this country—whether it’s the nurse who had his student loan debt forgiven under the waiver for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, the grandparent whose out-of-pocket insulin costs were capped at $35 a month under the Inflation Reduction Act, the classroom teacher who got the resources she needed to give her students extra academic and emotional support when they returned to school in the middle of a pandemic thanks to the American Rescue Plan, or the rural family who got help connecting to broadband from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Biden-Harris administration has been the most pro-worker, pro-labor, pro-education administration we have ever seen.
“In the last 2 1/2 years, the Biden-Harris administration has prioritized making government work for families and communities and delivering what regular folks need to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, be it from a once-in-a-generation pandemic, the scourge of gun violence on our streets and in our public spaces, or the threats to our basic freedoms and well-being: climate change, bigotry and hate, and disinformation and attacks on our democracy. This administration has also created 12 million jobs, growing the economy from the middle out and at the fastest rate in nearly 40 years.
“History will look back on Biden’s first term as a remarkable success, and at today’s announcement as a historic opportunity to continue delivering for the American people.”
