Our democracy is under attack by those who aim to use hatred and bigotry to divide us and sow fear and doubt about the integrity of our elections. And that threat to democracy is akin to a threat to American higher education. In this publication, you’ll find resources related to your voting rights, election integrity, immigrant rights, how to monitor and report hate group activity and crime, and more.
The radical changes that Project 2025 proposes would reverse decades of civil rights protections and widen the access gap, making college education more inequitable and unaffordable. This extremist policy proposal is being used as a blueprint for undermining higher education’s role as a bulwark of democracy.
AFT affiliates across the country have been using their collective power to encourage state legislators to pass laws that would improve their working conditions and quality of life. While some of the legislative accomplishments are focused on adjunct faculty, other wins tackle improvements in higher education and student debt, which affect the collective prosperity of the entire academic community and broader economy.
